Dear Friends,
While the obligation of a regular podcast is not something I’m willing to add to an already overflowing plate, there are some great books that have changed my life for the better or caused me to see the world in a different way.
In this irregular podcast series, I will be reading short passages from books that have had an impact on me.
Ryan Holiday has had a huge impact on my life, both through his writing, but also through correspondence, interviews, and his example of how to live.
“The Daily Stoic: 366 Meditations on Wisdom, Perseverance, and the Art of Living” is a perennial book of classic Stoic texts combined with short passages to apply it to the modern world.
In today’s episode, I read an excerpt from the January 1 entry, “Control and Choice” and add a few thoughts on the passage, stoicism generally, and how we can apply these ideas in what is shaping up to be an exciting year.
Yours truly,
Nick
P.S. If you want to read my interview with Ryan Holiday about applying Stoicism to Libertarian politics, it is available at The Daily Stoic website.
