In which your correspondent comments on the 2024 New Hampshire primary election for the British Broadcasting Company in Concord.
Dear Friends,
It’s a Presidential election year, which means I’m spending a lot more time on television and radio than I do in non-election years. New Hampshire’s First in the Nation Primary has been particularly interesting this year, not because it was competitive, but because it hosted the only state primary competition that matters this year, the Republican Presidential nomination.
After coming in third in Iowa’s caucuses, behind Trump and DeSantis, Nikki Haley had to put up a strong showing in New Hampshire’s primary to keep her campaign going after every other challenger to Trump dropped out (most endorsing him).
On Tuesday, January 23rd, Nikki Haley’s campaign for President ended.
She lost by double digits to a man that most registered Republicans believe is the lawful incumbent President. There’s no way forward from that, going into states that don’t allow crossover voting.
Donald Trump has made the Republican party in his image. The base of that party will not nominate anyone other than their hero and avatar. Showing their acceptance of this fate, both Nikki Haley and Chris Sununu have promised to support Donald Trump when he inevitably wins the nomination.
Below the line, there’s a video of my BBC News appearance on January 23rd at Revelstoke Coffee in Concord. I enjoyed working with everyone there, the producers were super professional, and they were kind enough to send me a raw clip.
Yours truly,
Nick
P.S. I’ll be on Morning Joe again tomorrow, sometime in the 7:00 am hour, hope you can catch it.
