On Joyce Craig
In the 2024 New Hampshire Governor election, I'm voting for Joyce Craig. Here's why libertarians like me should vote for the Democrat for New Hampshire Governor.
Dear Friends,
New Hampshire elects Governor every two years. This year’s election is between Democrat Joyce Craig, Republican Kelly Ayotte, and Libertarian Stephen Villee.
As a Libertarian, my first inclination would be to vote for the Libertarian candidate, but he supports New Hampshire seceding from the United States. Secession is antithetical to the United States, I like the United States, so he is excluded from getting my vote.
Kelly Ayotte has embraced Donald Trump, run a campaign entirely based on being anti-Massachusetts and anti-Manchester, and has said she will not legalize cannabis.
Joyce Craig was a three-term Mayor of Manchester. Our family lived in Manchester for her tenure and thought she did a pretty good job as Mayor. She has promised to legalize cannabis.
Most of Manchester’s gun crime problem can be laid at the feet of cannabis prohibition in New Hampshire. It being illegal to buy cannabis in Manchester makes it profitable for people to buy cannabis in Maine/Massachusetts/Vermont/Canada, and then sell it out of a hotel or house in Manchester or Bedford. When those guys get into arguments about money or territory or whatever, guns come out.
There’s no gunfights outside the cannabis store in Tyngsboro, just south of Nashua. And there’s much less gun crime in Nashua, because there’s no incentive to open an illegal operation just a few blocks from where people can buy cannabis safely and legally.
By the way, all the cars in the parking lot have New Hampshire plates.
Bringing New Hampshire into the modern era, where states stop wasting law enforcement resources on a safe and regulated product like cannabis, is enough reason for me to endorse Joyce Craig in the 2024 New Hampshire Governor’s election and urge all New Hampshire voters to support her.
Yours truly,
Nick
P.S. Let me know if you think there’s something I missed in my analysis of this race, this is the first public endorsement I’ve done in a while.
